Preparing Port-of-Halifax Cruise Season Security

How ISPS obligations, provisioning, and crew-change logistics converge during Halifax's 200-day cruise calendar.

The Port of Halifax welcomes over 200,000 cruise passengers a season across Piers 20, 22, and 23. Every call requires coordinated security across gangway access, provisioning zones, crew-change corridors, and shore-excursion staging.

Under Transport Canada's Marine Transportation Security Regulations and the ISPS Code, port facilities and vessels operate at Security Level 1 by default, with the ability to escalate to Level 2 or 3 on threat information. Our officers train on all three levels and support your facility security officer through documentation, incident reporting, and drill participation.

Homeporting calls add complexity — full turnover of thousands of passengers, extensive provisioning, and vessel-store deliveries all compress into a single day. Transit calls are faster but denser at shore-excursion touchpoints.

We build cruise-season staffing plans a season in advance, coordinate with Halifax Regional Police and CBSA on high-profile calls, and post shift schedules months ahead so our officers can plan around your busiest days.
